Venus Transit 2012

The above image is a result of stacking two separate exposures - one exposure for the Sun's surface detail and the silhouette of Venus transiting the face of the Sun, the other for the prominences that you see erupting from the Sun's surface. I am by no means an expert on astroimaging or stacking images, so this is the best I could do with my limited Photoshop skills.

Please note that this image is a collaboration between myself, Rudi Vavra, and Michael Fuller. Without Mike's help, and his solar telescope, I would have been unable to obtain this image. Even though the image is watermarked with my website URL, Mike deserves at least half the credit for us being able to obtain the image in the first place. So thank you, Mike, for driving us both a long way to get away from the clouds and rain, and for letting me attach my camera to the back of your telescope. It is because of your help that I have been able witness both the 2004 and 2012 Venus transits, the only two that will happen in my lifetime. So thanks!

Also a big thanks to Mark from the Batemans Bay Nut Roasting Company. It was nice to catch up with you again, Mark, and the refreshments were very much appreciated. :)
